Meet Founder Damon Martin
I started coaching in my twenties, after playing sports in high school and college. Baseball was my first love. However, coming from a predominantly black community, there were not many opportunities to play baseball.
I got reunited with the love of the sport when my son Dalyn showed interest in the sport at a very young age. I recognized the spark that others saw in me. I started coaching again 7 years ago when Dalyn turned 3 years old. A friend asked if I was interested in setting up a select ball organization and it was a game changer for me.
I was asked to manage the Fort Bend Bulls 8U, and after managing this organization, I noticed that many players in the select game were not from under privileged or minority backgrounds. I struggled with this realization and asked why and what could I do to level the playing field. In particular, I wanted to bring more African American kids to the sport. I came up with the vision of The Goal Wood that would fulfill every void that so bothered my spirit when my son started playing select ball. I am thrilled to launch The Goal Wood and invite you to help!
